This blog is dedicated for building character and human values in children through various stories and experiences of children practising these values. I offer this as a tribute to my Master and guide Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba and my mother Mrs. Anandi Parameswaran who was an exemplary Balvikas guru and nutured me with the right values. Today I am able to guide some children through the “Premaarpan Value and Prayer class”.

Swami (Sai Baba) says a small plant can be moulded but a tree cannot be. Children have to be directed in the right path by inculcating values in them. Character building is very important. He emphasises on character. “End of Education is character”. “A person without character is like a house without a lamp”. Some of the ways in achieving this is by teaching children prayers and value based stories.

This is intended to be of use to anyone wanting to practise human values and inculcate these values in children irrespective of caste, creed or religion. This does not promote any religion, God or Guru. The values are universal. Stories are taken from various sources and due credits are given to the source wherever possible. Hoping this to be of  value to the next generation at a period when human values are eroding at a rapid pace.

Looking forward and wishing for a loving and peaceful world filled with the people treading this path of human excellence and who believe that “Education is for life and not mere living.”

I am silent visitor, and enjoy reading the inspirational stories. while i was reading Honesty in school- Experience shared by a 12yr old, i am very eager to write a few lines.
My son, who is 12 years old now, unlike other children, is always ready to share his most valuable thing too. He is a calm and kind boy. His scores are very good in school too.
History is one subject for which his interest is like a toggle switch, on and off at times. In grade 7, for history unit test, his score out of 50 was 39. That is lower than what he normally achieves.
He was totaling up, when he realized that the teacher has given him 39 instead of 35 the real total. He immediately went to to the teacher and reduced the number. He came home, i saw some scribbling done by the teacher and attested with her signature with a remark “do better next time”.
Upon asking he came up with the entire episode.
I am very proud of him! I appreciated his honesty and also rewarded him.

Thanks for sharing the good act by your son. Values are the need of the day and it should be cultivated from a very young age. Human values like Truth, Right Conduct, Love, Peace and Non violence must be deeply rooted in the mind of the children, so that when they grow up they will be lovely citizens of the world and make the world a better place to live. Parents must encourage each good act of the child not neceesarily through some rewards and give it equal or more importance than their academic or other extra curricular activities as this is the foundation for life and not a mere living.
